Candice Thompson

lead curator: writing + praxis

Candice Thompson has been working in and around live art for nearly two decades: first as a professional ballet dancer before moving behind-the-scenes into costume design, movement education and direction, editing and arts writing. She received her MFA in literary nonfiction from Columbia University before relocating to Atlanta. As a relatively new transplant, she has contributed to ArtsAtl, been a panelist for Georgia Council for the Arts, and given voice to many movement artists from Atlanta through Dance magazine and DIYdancer–an online magazine, annual print journal, and monthly podcast–for which she serves as editorial director and co-founder. She continues to advocate and create opportunity for concert dance artists in the commercial world through her creative consultancy, All Movement. Her current art practice mixes prose and weaving, returning to experiments she began as an artist in residence at the Textile Arts Center in Brooklyn, NY, in 2011.
